Create Your Own Public Domain Image Products

December 7, 2008 by Debra

There are, as you may know, many sites devoted to collecting public domain images. For example,

  • Coasters
  • Posters
  • Iron ons
  • Tote bags
  • Notebooks
  • Playing cards
  • Note cards

Public Domain Image ProductsIt doesn’t have to be something as obvious as nature or animals. There are many niches which could be tapped into with these amazing public domain images.

For example, the United States Government has amassed a collection of thousands of photographs and images and organized them.

One such collection is devoted to the Wright Brothers and they actually have negatives from the brother’s collection. You can view one such negative here -

They also have old baseball cards, World War 1 Posters, Women’s Rights, Civil War photographs, old political cartoons, and so on. You can find many of these collections at http://www.loc.gov/rr/print/catalog.html. Take special note that not all images are in the public domain. The library however does provide as much information about each image and collection as possible which gives you the tools to make sure the images you’re interested in using are in the public domain.

Another way to capitalize on public domain images is to create an information based website on images and graphics. You could repackage public domain images and sell them.

Public Domain ImageMany people will pay a premium to have you do all the research and collect images which are free and clear to use any way they see fit.

The end result is a website with various categories of images which could be broad based and cover a number of subjects or niche based and cover a very narrow subject like nature images or war images.

Each repackaged collection of public domain images can be sold as a collection.

Did you know that we have a newsletter? We share ideas just like these every week. Places on the internet where Public Domain information is hidden on the internet.
